William Hwang of Delta, British Columbia, passed away on January 30th, 2025, at the age of 84. Bill, as he was affectionately known, was a loving husband and father. He was born in Kwai Yeun, China, and moved to Hong Kong after the war where he met his wife, Miranda. They immigrated to Canada in 1966.

He found work as a steam engineer at the Crofton pulp and paper mill on Vancouver Island, BC. He raised his three daughters, Irene, Germaine, and Janet in Chemainus, BC on a hobby farm and also started a corner grocery store with his wife.

Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved to Delta, BC, where he pursued his hobbies of gardening, pruning his fruit trees and fishing. Upcycling was another of his passions, and he would spend his time searching and collecting items for upcycling and for his DIY projects. He was a very capable handyman who got great satisfaction from his repair work.

Bill also enjoyed eating and seeking out new restaurants. He was an entertaining storyteller, and he loved sharing many of his humorous stories of adventures and mishaps with his family and friends. Bill was content to have lived his life marching to the beat of his own drum.

Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Miranda, and their three daughters Irene (Carl), Germaine (Fred), and Janet (Mike). He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

No formal service will be held.

Great lost of a true friend!
"A long friendship is so hard to come by !" Said my mother Yvonne gently under her breath. I sensed the love and sadness she had for auntie Miranda and the whole family. Not only my mom but also myself feel the tremendous lost and sadness now that William ( to me he was referred to uncle William) is no longer with us. Realizing for a comfortable thought was that my dad would be excited to meet uncle William at the gate of Heaven.

My Mom and Dad were very blessed by the friendship Miranda and William in the early 80s . They knew each other on Vancouver Island because at the time my parents lived in Chemainus,B.C. Miranda and William were God sent. William had helped my parents whenever they were in need knowing their son and daughter were miles away in Hong Kong. It was a friendship of good time, good food and good traveling including a most memorable cruise. My parents, also called Bill and Yvonne had been very blessed by uncle William and auntie Miranda.

Uncle William was exactly what he was described in the write up of his life. However, the family has been modest. It'll take pages to mention his goodness. My parents and my husband/ myself were always in awe of his ingenious, clever inventions, for example , a dog feed used to feed their dogs automatically while they were not around. He was also a very intelligent man.
Uncle William's kindness and generosity extended to not only ourselves and our kids, but also to my aunt and uncle, and to people in USA which were my parents in law as well as my husband's sister. He simply had very long arms welcoming reaching out to anyone whom my parents cared about.

Uncle William lived a great fulfilling life.
He was a very honorable man. He could bless others because he first was blessed by a wonderful incredible wife, auntie Miranda. With three lovely daughters and three sons in-law completing a picture of perfect family, he felt no want and content indeed.

My mom , Simon and myself send our love and gratitude to his family. May God's peace and strength be with everyone in the family.

We will always remember his story telling, his contagious laughter, his thoughtfulness, kindness and love....
We will miss his precious presence, until we meet again dear uncle William.

Much love and prayers

Dear Mrs. Hwang and Family,
We're so saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Hwang. I remembered visiting your place with Irene when you and Mr. Hwang just moved to Delta. He was so kind and friendly. He also told us what he planned to do with the backyard. Thank you so much for all the yams from your plum tree in the backyard.
Our thoughts are with you and your family. May you find peace and solace in remembering the wonderful times you had with Mr. Hwang.
