It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Valerie Gloria Young on Thursday April 30, 2026, at Eagle Ridge Hospital at the age of 71. She received a recent cancer diagnosis and passed away peacefully surrounded by her children. Val will lovingly be remembered by her children Catherine (Matthew), Jennifer, Christopher (Wendy), and her sister Vera. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren Kaitlyn, Marcus and Maria, who she loved so dearly. She was predeceased by her parents Bernice and Albert Kopisky, her sister Sandra, and her brothers Edward, Douglas and Ted.

Val had a passion for photography, anything to do with gardening and plants, camping, road trips, days at the beach, music, and of course, her family. She was a collector of antiques she was drawn to and loved showing her latest finds. Although she kept saying she wouldn't get another, she was a lifelong cat lover and took great care of those she adopted (she was also a great cat sitter for both family and friends).

Val always put her all into the work she did, from the times of being a photographer and running a studio, to her role managing storage facilities at her time of retirement. She continued to have this passion when it came to volunteering at a number of places, and most recently at Crossroads Hospice Thrift Store. She would tell us stories of the fun they had at the store (and the hard work) and some of the close relationships she built with fellow volunteers and staff. We are thankful for those relationships and the support and care they showed to our mom.

She will be missed every day, and we are lucky to have the memories of her beautiful heart, loving smile and genuine laughter.
