It is with a sad heart that the family announces the loss of Steven Barnes on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the age of 65.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Cindy, of 10 years, his two sons, Jason and Jeff and three grandchildren, Delia, Zachary and Jay. He also leaves behind his sister, Christine (Bruce), and brother, Wayne. Steven was predeceased by both his parents, Robert Barnes and Margaret Barnes, his sister Diane Louise and his infant daughter.

Steven worked with Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation for 45 years in various capacities. He loved the paint truck where he painted the lines on the highways. He also loved the plow truck clearing the highways of tons of snow. His last position was as the Maintenance Coordinator for the Matheson area which he held for over 10 years until his retirement.

Steven and Cindy both had a passion for off-roading as they explored the back roads in northern Ontario before moving to British Columbia to explore the beautiful mountains here. Together they had great adventures with many beautiful vistas to feast their eyes on as they reached mountain tops and crossed valleys. Steven loved “jeeping” and would plan many day trips or weekend adventures for them to enjoy. He often loved to go out with jeeping friends to tackle the more technical aspects of off-roading and would come back home with stories of his outings. The most adventurous trip was with his son, Jason, as they crossed a very narrow mountain ridge that was meant for ATVs. The stories they told when they returned home safe and sound!

When he moved to British Columbia, Steven was reunited with his sister, Christine, and her husband Bruce. He enjoyed visiting with them for holiday gatherings, BBQs and board games. One of his last words to her was that he wished they had more visits together.

As per Steven’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada in his name.

We just heard this news; and though it is sad we also also rejoice because you are free indeed in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. I was in awe to hear so much of the conversations you and Cindy had about seeing Jesus first. What an amazing strong wife to have by your side & encourage you on until all was done here on earth! You fought the good fight Steve with an army of prayers, but God had the final say & I am thankful that your suffering is over. Eternity is yours with Jesus!
With love, Chris & Elaine

Hi Steve, I hear you have decided to go home early.
I guess, that by the time I get there, you will have explored
a lot of mountains. That's great, because you can show me
all the good places. It will save me a lot of time. I sure
enjoyed our time together. Say hello to Jesus from us. love gary and deb
