It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of our mom, Ruth Gyulai (née Boelke), of Vancouver, BC, on her 87th birthday. She was born to Gust and Adel Boelke in Wetaskiwin, AB.

Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Raymond; her children, Marilyn (John), Mark (Glynis), and Michelle (Matt); her seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; as well as Raymond’s son, Danny, and his entire family, all of whom brought her great pride and joy throughout her life.

Being born into a family of nine children helped shape Ruth’s strong sense of independence and determination, qualities that carried her through every stage of life with remarkable resilience. This was especially evident in her courageous and successful battle with breast cancer.

Ruth passed down her passion for crocheting, baking, and reading mystery novels to all who knew her. She also loved doing puzzles, birdwatching, and stargazing with those around her.

Her memory will live in our hearts forever.

 A celebration of life will be held;

Sunday, June 7,2026 between 1-3 pm at Le Coeur Co-op, 3502 Cordiale Dr, Vancouver, BC

Ruth and I were next door neighbours for 27 years. The four of us - Ruth, Ray, my husband Jim and I- would bird-watch together on our porches. For many years, we would go out for walks and dinners, until Ruth got cancer and felt more comfortable at home. Ruth taught me how to bake delicious holiday treats. She was kind, gentle and loved to laugh. She was brave and resilient. Rest in peace, Ruth

I wish I had gotten to see more of my Boelke family. My father Ed Boelke was deeply saddened by the loss of his sister Ruth. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

I didn't get to see Auntie very often, but I'll remember and cherish those family reunions on the May long weekend that we had for years. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Aunt Ruth was always my favorite. I remember our childhood visits. I was in Vancouver after working at the mine in Port Hardy and was diagnosed with Chrones disease while there. I was fortunate to stay there till I got well enough to get on with life. I also stayed there while I worked at Expo 86 and her house was always a transition place in my many haunts around the world. I had my own key for years.
We used to go for tea cup and psychics readings and we thought a lot alike. I always felt totally accepted and loved by her.
I will always carry a picture in my mind of her sitting at the kitchen table swapping stories and her rocked back in with her had over her mouth laughing at some silly comment she made.
I will continue to carry her in my heart foreverโค๏ธ
