We are saddened to announce the passing of Roberta Bagshaw on December 12, 2024.

Roberta was born in Chester PA and spent her creative years in North Vancouver and Bowen Island, where she touched many hearts, and brought the best moments out of the ones she met. She cared deeply for her family and friends, especially Francoise her “Soeur de Coeur”. She leaves behind her husband Robert and three children, Drew, Glen, Jeff and their children.

Their time together was truly special, and they were always busy doing something. After several trips to Europe and Asia her interests led her to writing a book in 1993. “No Better Land” took over 5 years of hard work and interpretation of handwritten text. Simultaneously, she studied and completed her master’s degree at Simon Fraser University in Geography, as well as managing the family. Cooking, walking her dog, and visiting her friends were just a few of her favorite things to do.

She will be very missed by us all, and she rests in peace.

Memorial Service Location: North Lonsdale United Church - 3380 Lonsdale Ave North Vancouver

Bobbi and I have been close friends ever since she moved to Vancouver in the 1960's.

Our young families shared many interesting and fun times as the children grew up.

I will miss our most frequent phone calls and short visits we have had these last couple of years.

Bobbi, you will be missed by so many. Rest in peace.

Dear Glen, when we walk past your old house on Bowen, memories flood back to the times we would just pop in to say 'hi'. Your mum and dad were always so welcoming and warm, always so kind and caring and how they loved to show us around their beloved garden. My sincerest condolences to you, Bob and the rest of your family. Dear Bobbi will be missed by many, but remembered so well. Sophie

Bobbi was a mentor friend and an integral role model for many of us in our teens and 20s. A wonderful centered woman who graciously opened her home to all while raising a family. God bless you Bob and family as you grieve, we hold you in prayer and hearts. Xoxo Wendy and Tony

Dear Family

How to begin to describe how Bobbie imprinted my life and Randy’s life .

It was full of love , full of activity , full of good food , full of family , it was full of Christianity , it was full of giving and sharing , it was simply full of everything anyone would ever want from a mother , a husband , a grandmother and a dear friend . She gave from the heart to all .

As Randy and I lived thousand if miles away we kept in touch . We did see each other when we came west . We loved our phone calls often weekly .

We are thankful for the initial beginning of our connection so very long ago in Young Life in Toronto .

Bob lead our groups and Bobbie was in the background holding the fort. These were years that imprinted on so many lives forever .

Thank you both for making our lives more beautiful and more grounded forever .
I am grateful for our continued connection for so many years . Fabulous visits to Bowen Island …amazing food and stimulating discussions .

Bobbie you were the ROCK and the GLUE that made it all work .

Love ya forever
Nancy Gordon ( Randy is deceased but would say he was blessed by your gifts as well )

Donna and I have known Bob and Bobbi since the 1950s, now a very long time ago and before we and they were married: first from UBC days in Vancouver, then in Toronto and in more recent times on Bowen Island where we visited them in their paradise by ferry and car and by kayak. They were always beacons of faith and goodwill. We have kept in touch as they moved to Surrey and as we all grew older and started to experience the trials of old age common to all of us as we start to come apart. We have treasured their friendship and commonness of interest and admired their many interests and activities all the way from student partnerships with Asian interests to authoring Bobbie's book and the Thursday inspirational emails. In an often too negative world they shone a positive faith-filled light and have made the world a better place. Three cheers for them both and the inspiration they have been to us all.

Sometimes we cross our path for only a short time and it leaves a genuine memory, that is how I will remember Bobby, The way she expressed the love for her family, her gentle eyes and her soft voice were a delight and privilege to witness.

I first met Bob and Bobbi in the 60’s when Bob was the leader of a Young People’s Christian youth group entitled Young Life. While Bob held the title of group leader Bobbi played a supportive role in the organization. Thanks to both, many teens such as myself were exposed to a variety of different experiences, both in Toronto and across Canada. This group was invaluable to both our upbringing and development. Bobbi will be fondly remembered for her positive influence both during my early years and our friendship over the years. She will be missed.

Dear Bob and Glen

Soren joins me in expressing our deepest sympathy for your loss of Bobbi. She was a wonderful neighbour on Bowen and we were very happy to know her. When we moved to Fairweather, Bob was Chair of our Strata and both Bob and Bobbi made us feel most welcome.

We are holding you and your family in our thoughts and hearts.

I only met Roberta (Bobbi) later in her life through working with her son Glen but the moment I met her I knew she was a caring, wonderful, beautiful lady.
I saw her a few times where Glen and I work together and had the privilege of meeting her husband as well.
I also had the pleasure of being invited into their warm and welcoming home. After meeting these fine people and getting to know them as well as I could in the short time we had I know how much Bobbi will be missed by the lovely family and many friends that she created during her life.
My condolences to the remaining family members, my best friend Glen, and all that knew her that will miss her dearly.
I feel strongly that she will go to the good place where she will await each
and everyone of her family members when they can all be together again. Something I hope they all find space to look forward to during this time of their grieving.
In eternal memory, Roberta.

In the early sixties, Bob and Bobbi came to Toronto and started the first Young Life club in Dianne's school area. Bobbi became Dianne's Campaigners leader, generously sharing her time, compassion and wisdom. When Dianne and I started university, we also became volunteer leaders and benefitted more from Bobbi's guidance. We also enjoyed babysitting the three young boys in their Willowdale home. Additionally, Bobbi was so kind to both of our mothers. Later, our own family of five travelled across Canada and spent some time with the Bagshaws in their North Van home. Then, we visited them on Bowen Island a couple of times. Several times we would greet Bob in Toronto, sometimes with Bobbi, as Bob would do a recruiting drive across Canada. In more recent years, Bobbi has encouraged us on the phone and with her regular quotations and reflections. Simply put, Bobbi played a major role in our lives and we thank God for her love, her wisdom and her special care for us. Dianne and John Havercroft

Bobbi was a great source of encouragement to me when I was new to Bowen and beginning a new chapter in life. I enjoyed her tutelage and much fellowship around her table with the rest of her Bible study girls. No doubt she’s resting in the arms of her Savior!
