We are very sad to announce the news of our brother, Richard Otto Eric Szameit, born August 19th, 1960 who passed away suddenly on Aug. 24, 2024. It was a terrible shock for his family and many longtime friends and we will forever miss him… 😢 Rick grew up in South Burnaby and was well known for his big smile, and was always available to help fix anything to do with electronics and computers, he was a genius!

Our family would like to invite you to join us at his” Celebration of Life” which will be held on Sunday Nov. 10th. Please send a message to Sue to RSVP and for more details.  Thank you.

From his sisters, Sue and Sharon, and Dad (Eric) and all of our family members.

Rick was a special soul. So kind and caring. I was so sad to hear of his passing. Although it had been some time since I had seen him, I have many happy memories of him. He was always great to talk to and loved music. I remember how patient and kind he was to my parents helping them with their electronic issues. He helped me so many times too. I'm sorry you had to leave so soon.
Very sorry to all the family.

I remember when I first met Rick like it was yesterday. We met at Nelson elementary school in grade six. He made me laugh because of the car sounds that he could do & the funny faces that he made. As kids we rode motorcycles down on the flats. We both had a passion for listening to music & playing records, on high end stereo systems I might add. We also shared the love for working on electronics especially vintage audio equipment. Good times hanging out with the gang in his parents lane way garage. As teens going to all the Burnaby burnout parties. The many rounds of golf with Darren, Don, Rick & myself. All the concerts that we went to & the most memorable ones at the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington state. Good memories. I will miss just hanging out and talking like brothers.
I miss my old buddy. Take care & watch over us Sammy.

So sad 😢. Rick was one of my best friends back in the 70's. I have fond memories of riding his Honda 100 along the flats of the Fraser river. Hanging out in his father's garage, warmed by a wood stove, sitting on old car seats, playing music, far too loud. Going to the latest rock concerts at the PNE. Rick build his own amplifier from scratch and could take apart his Honda and put it back together blindfolded, so talented. I live abroad so unfortunately I cannot attend his memorial but I am sure my son and brother will be there. Thank you Rick for the memories. Rest in peace and see you on the other side. Gloria
PS Thank you Mr. Szameit (senior) for providing a warm safe place for a bunch of teens to hang out.

Ric was a godsend to my 96 year old mother (his dad's very dear friend). Whenever anything needed fixing around her condo Ric was there to help. He could fix anything and tended to all of Mom's minor emergencies. It gave her peace of mind and me as well since I live 3000 miles away and couldn't help much from that distance. I didn't get much of a chance to get to know Ric until this May when we were cleaning out Mom's condo prior to her move to Ontario. Ric was picking up items and on several occasions we had a chance to chat. I enjoyed those casual chats and really got a deeper sense of just how much kindness was in his heart. He was a good, caring man.
