Richard "Ricky" entered this world on December 28, 1951 (born at VGH), and suddenly left us on October 1, 2025.

He is predeceased by his parents Alexander Finlay and Therese Antonia (St. Cyr) Finlay. A son, father, brother, uncle, and dear friend to all that knew him. Siblings: Brother (Randy - Wife Lora-Lee), Sisters (Sandra, Deborah "Debbie").

He is survived by his one daughter (Tania) and three grandchildren, Jonathan, Adam, and Jacqueline. Five great grandchildren, Isabella, Emilia, Olivia, (twins), Athena, and Chancey.

Ricky loved children and they loved him.  He was the fun, silly, and full of life.  Uncle to many nieces and nephews: Tim, Danny, Michael, Crystal, Jocelyn, James, Larissa, Raelene, Brandon, Lydia, and Marshall.

Ricky was a kind, honest, sincere gentleman. He lived a full life of adventure, love, and generosity. He loved the Lord, he was a devoted Catholic and Alter Boy, and went to Church with his Mother and Grandparents in his younger years.

He had a tender place in his heart for his daughter Tania, and those that loved him. He was very close to his Mother, brother and sisters, Grandparents, Nana & Papa, aunties, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Ricky traveled across many countries in Europe, United States, Mexico, and Canada. He enjoyed many successes in team sports, football, baseball, broomball, Tae Kwon Do, boxing, body building, and broke bench press records provincially. He was an incredibly fast runner which contributed to his team championships.

Growing up in East Van, he was respected within the community. A strong powerful man always told us that there is always someone tougher, and instilled street smarts in us, and would always have your back or someone else's.

His brother (Randy), and sister (Deborah "Debbie") were blessed to have an older brother that took them everywhere and loved them unconditionally.

A special thank you to his dear friends for the love and support they provided to Ricky throughout the years.  Thank you to the staff and residents at Cedars Assisted Living for their dedication, love and care.

God Bless Ricky.  You're at peace, and in Heaven with the Lord.

I’m so deeply saddened by the loss of my cousin. He was such a gentle, kind soul — a true staple in our family. His quiet strength, simplicity, and warmth touched everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but always remembered . Love you Ricky ❤️

Ricky was more than just a cousin; he was a light in our family. His kindness, warmth and positive energy touched everyone who knew him. He had a heart that was always ready to help, a smile that could brighten any room, and a spirit that inspired others to be their best. Ricky’s passion for fitness showed not just in his strength, but in his dedication and discipline. Ricky was loving, genuine, and full of life.

Rest in Peace Ricky, love you always and forever!❤️❤️❤️

Ricky was a great person. A friend to many. I am so glad we had a visit a year or so ago. We spent some time together on a Sunday with Deb (my friend from high school) and had breakfast, a nice drive through our old neighbourhood and a visit to Ricky’s place. Ricky was a dear friend to my cousin Tommie Boyce who also passed recently. Rest in peace Ricky. Deepest condolences…
