Patricia Irene Johnston, née Fuller, died after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease on 27th April, 2025. Known for her impeccable timing, Divine Mercy Sunday is a day of refuge and shelter for all souls. As Jesus said to St Faustina: ‘On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy.’

Patricia had an unmatched sense of humour and whimsy. She was a wonderfully patient and creative person. Bridge, garden club, Tai Chi, sorority, pickleball and lawn bowling kept her active. She loved to travel. Cycling in the Netherlands, riding a horse around the pyramids of Giza, sailing the Yangtze River before the Three Gorges Dam was built and watching the sunrise atop Borobudur were a few of her adventures.

Despite being perennially ready to jet off on a plane or go boating along the BC coast, much of what she enjoyed best in life was almost walking distance from her home. The quiet beauty of the woods of Crescent Park, and the everchanging tidal patterns of Crescent Beach were dear to her until nearly the end of her life.

For years Patricia volunteered with the Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary. She liked meeting different types of people. She was friendly, kind and empathic. When coping with life’s vicissitudes, she drew strength from a profound sense of gratitude. She was proud of the significant donations that the Superfluity Thrift Store made to the hospital. While typically reticent about her own efforts, she was enormously pleased to receive a Paul Harris Award from The White Rock Rotary Club.

She would want to thank her friends for the joy they brought to her life. She would want to thank her caregivers at Suncrest Retirement Community who made her as comfortable as possible during the final stage of her illness. Her family is especially grateful for the quality of care she has received and for the staff’s kindness.

Patricia is survived by her daughter Barbara, her son Darren, her son in-law Guillermo and a multitude of grand-dogs. We take solace that she is now free of Alzheimer’s disease in eternal life with Jesus. We are comforted knowing that Patricia Johnston knows who Patricia Johnston is again.

What a lovely tribute. My condolences to Patricia’s friends and family. My mother also had this awful disease, and it truly is a blessing when they pass.
