Grace was born in Imperial, Saskatchewan and spent her youth as a girl riding horses and playing with farm animals before moving to Swift Current where she got her LPN and met Johnny Marte. Johnny and Grace started a life on the west coast; however, with the unexpected death of Johnny, Grace soon found herself as a very young widow with three little kids. Grace was strong, resilient and, while working as a nurse, raised her children with love and joy. After remarrying, the family moved to North Vancouver and Grace loved the mountains. She ended her career as an MOA for a doctor’s office where she made meaningful connections with patients for many years. Grace was a loving mom and proud and loving grandma. She loved country music, animals, reading, puzzles, fast cars, sweet treats and spending time with her family. She made the best shortbread and her cabbage rolls were second to none. Grace was generous, supportive and had a quick sense of humour and occasionally a sharp tongue. Her many ‘Gracisms’ will be her legacy.
She passed away at Minoru Long-term Care home, and the family is ever grateful for the care and compassion the staff there gave her for the last years of her life. Grace is predeceased by her parents Russell and Evelyn Newlove, husbands Johhny Marte and Don Lutz. She is survived by her children Michele (Hal), Sharla, and Jason (Martha), and her grandchildren Alex, Samantha, Sadie, Tessa, and Tyson.
Grace did not wish to have funeral or service.
Donations may be made in her memory to the National Wildlife Federation.
