In Loving Memory of Joyce von Gunten

Born March 16, 1937, Joyce departed our world on December 28, 2022 at Surrey Memorial Hospital in Surrey, BC. She is survived by her three children, Ken (Lorraine), Julie (Neville) and David; her sister Grace Ingraham; her grandchildren Kellie, Tina and Sarah; her great-granddaughter Paige; her nieces Dalene, Tammy, and Karen; and nephews Paul and Alan. She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Olga, brother Alan and sister-in-law Marlene.

Born in Ontario in Osnabruck Township, Stormont County, she grew up in the country, living on a few farms with her family. She then went to business college and later got married and raised a family. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years and enjoyed the challenge of balancing her numbers.

Several years after retirement, she found a couple of part-time jobs, and then eventually made Save-On Foods her final employer. She always took pride in doing the best job she could and looking the best she could.

She loved to spend time on the computer, learning lots about different topics, especially health and wellness. She spent many hours creating beautiful electronic greeting cards on special occasions for her family, relatives, and friends. She valued her friendships and had a few lifetime friendships.

Joyce will be missed by many, and so will her creations that will no longer show up in the ‘inbox’ or ‘mail’ anymore. She was loved more than she realized.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all medical professionals that cared for her over the years, and their understanding and patience. Thanks to the health care team at Surrey hospital, for their care and in keeping her as comfortable as possible.

There will be no services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of service or flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice in her name.

I'm very saddened to hear of Joyce's passing and my condolances go out to her family and friends.
Thirty years ago I had the privilage to work with Joyce in Toronto. Although the details of our many conversations are lost to memories, there are a few things that do come to mind.
I can still picture Joyce in her office. I remember as always the lady but tough where her job was concerned . I seem to remember a few times when I was sternly sent looking for my missing bills and receipts. She had our respect and I personally felt comfort knowing Joyce was keeping track of the "bottom line".
However, what I remember most was a warm and kind person, with a quick smile and a great sense of humor.
Joyce was a wonderful lady and friend, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

My condolences to Joyce's family and friends.  Words cannot express how saddened I was to hear about the loss of my beloved life long friend Joyce.  May her memories bring her family and friends comfort and peace.  Joyce was truly a remarkable person and her strength and legacy will never be forgotten. She showed us how to be strong in times of hardship as we reflect on how she faced and overcame life's challenges along the way.  It is truly remarkable how her tenacity and perseverance had taken her to researching and eventually locating a cure for a long term ailment she had while also keeping herself as healthy as she could be well into her eighties.

Joyce had that special kind of deep love for her family and friends that will keep her in our hearts forever. Her love and loyalty for her children took her from Ontario to British Columbia leaving some of her family and friends behind but the bonds she made with us lasted a lifetime.

My dear friend, Joyce, you are so loved more than you could have imagined.  I will miss you and your ever-smiling face. May you rest in the peace you so richly deserved .

Ken, Julie, David and families,

Sending you all our sincere condolences from your Ontario family. We are saddened to hear of Aunt Joyce’s passing. A few days before her passing Dalene shared with us that she had just spoke with her exchanged Christmas greetings, prompting us all to reminisce and affectionately remember the old days.

I have such fond memories of earlier times spent with our parents at the cottage, gathering at Christmas and the fun times everyone had together. Aunt Joyce’s laughter and her sense of humour always brought a smile. The passion that she held for her family and her Swiss heritage was so pronounced and will leave a void in our family that cannot be filled.

I especially will miss her thoughtful Facebook holiday greetings and her brilliant birthday greetings which always made me feel special. She was so special herself and will always be remembered with fondness and affection.

May she rest in peace.

Tammy,
Ed, Julia and Alyssa

We will miss Joyce. It was always so nice to run into her when shopping every now & then. She always greeted us with a warm smile and a hug. We enjoyed spending time with her and she showed us her fun side at a few parties. She was very proud of her bookkeeping skills - she did this job for us when we had a consignment store and prided herself in balancing everything down to the last penny.

One of Joyce’s greatest accomplishments was bringing the wonderful Ken into the world.

Rest In Peace Joyce🌹
