It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Christel Steffensen, 84 years old, of Surrey BC, she passed on March 16, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Gloria’s last days were spent surrounded by family and she passed peacefully.

Gloria was born on January 3rd 1938 and she was the only child to Klara and Egon Kunze of Breslau, Germany. After her formal education was completed, Gloria began her career in window display design. Gloria enjoyed a life long passion of various artistic pursuits. She utilized her numerous creative talents to make the world around her beautiful. She loved children, animals and cared for numerous plants. She filled her home with warmth, love and kindness.

In 1962 Gloria met the love of her life, Gunter Steffensen. After a whirlwind engagement and immigrating to Canada; they were wed in Vancouver. Gloria and Gunter were life long partners in love, family and business. Gunter and Gloria took on many business endeavours and accomplished much in their lifetime. Also, Gunter and Gloria had two daughters and they enjoyed and took pride in their family. They remained dedicated to each other until Gunter’s passing in 2007.

Gloria spent the later years of her life living independently in a strata community in Surrey. Gloria was a very valued member of the community Social Committee and an active Bingo participant. She had a cheerful personality, engaging smile and ready laugh. Gloria made friends easily and she maintained her friendships long term.

Gloria was predeceased by her father, mother and her husband. She is survived by her two daughters; Diane (Kelly) and Sandy (Martin) and by her grandchildren Nikolas (Rowena) and Sydney. Also, by the numerous family doggies that she cherished, as they loved her. We will all miss her greatly.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Palliative Unit staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care of Gloria during her end of life journey. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Gloria’s name to the Canadian Red Cross or the BC Cancer Foundation.
