Frank Herbert Loates was born on January 8,1950, in Toronto, Ontario.

Frank, or Berdie, as he was known to those who loved him, was a man of many talents. He was a talented musician, who would often serenade us with song and guitar. He had a degree in fashion design, and worked as a tailor and made beautiful shirts and dresses. He was also a gifted finishing carpenter and worked for many years in construction. Berdie was an artist. He loved to create. His legacy lives on through his art and creations that he has left behind with many of us.

Berdie met the love of his life, Jean, in 1976, in Toronto. In 1980, they settled in White Rock, BC with their daughter Diane to be close to Jean’s family.

Berdie was also a hell of a dancer! Not only could he light up the floor under the disco ball, but he was also a talented ballroom dancer. He and Jean loved to dance at every opportunity. It was a beautiful sight to behold the two of them glide across a dance floor.

Together, Berdie and Jean had a great life, a lot of friends, and of course, a lot of dancing

When Jean predeceased Berdie last year, his heart was broken. We only hope that they are once again, smiling, and gliding across the dance floor.

Birdie, was the kindest father I had ever met. He treated all of the girls that Diane had as friends as his daughters. Very few men is this world as kind as him , he was special to many ?
