We sadly announce the sudden passing of Darleen Frazier, age 76, on the morning of August 6, 2023. She was born on January 6, 1947, to Theresa and Jack Coppock in Maidstone, Saskatchewan. She was their seventh and youngest child. She was still a baby when her father died. The family moved several times, eventually settling in North Burnaby, BC. She attended Notre Dame High School and excelled at school and in her studies. Shortly after graduating she married Thomas O. Frazier and moved to LA, California. They had two boys, Michael and Mark.

Although the marriage did not survive, Darleen did. She graduated from Caribou College in Kamloops, BC in accounting and enjoyed a long and successful career as a financial controller and won many awards from major manufacturers. Darleen loved doing crossword puzzles and usually started the workday by completing several of the most difficult. She also loved to play golf and bridge.

She is survived by her loving partner of 48 years George Appling, her two sons, and two grandchildren, Christopher and Taylor Frazier. She also leaves behind two older sisters, Jean Innes and Frances Zaborniak, two twin brothers, Dean and Dalton Coppock. Her two older brothers, Keith Coppock and John Coppock preceded her in death. Darleen will be remembered as a strong independent woman who worked hard, complained little, and loved her two boys. She will be so missed.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Masses have been arranged and are being said for Darleen in Red Deer and Regina by her brothers and sisters in Canada.

In lieu of flowers the family would ask that donations be made to The Canadian Heart Association.

Auntie Darlene you were dearly loved and you will thoughtfully remembered and missed. She was an amazing caring woman. I knew her as Auntie Darlene. Auntie Darlene and my Mom have been friends since before I was born. They had children one after the other for four years, I was number two in the sequence. We spent many Thanksgiving’s and Easters together. When Michael and I were younger we were pretending to be hair stylist. We did crazy hairstyles on our Mom’s and we all laughed at the funny results . When I was in trouble she allowed me to stay with her family. I never thanked her enough for all she did for me. I miss those childhood memories of our families gathering together for spaghetti dinners and watching Star Trek.

Darleen was someone I looked up to. I think we had similar upbringings and I truly respected that she was exceptionally smart, very dry humour and a sense of loyalty. She had integrity and a purpose of moving forward. I will remember her always for speaking her mind. She was incredibly admirable.

Dear Mike , Mark , and George

Darleen was my baby sister. There was 10 years between us but we always managed to stay in touch. I know how involved she was in her small community. She was always there to help neighbors in need. She also volunteered in the larger community.

I know how much she loved her boys. There was never a conversation when her boys and grandchildren were not included.

I admired Darleen. She was her own person. She was intelligent, strong-willed, hard working and committed. She accepted life as it was.

Although I was the big sister it was Darleen who played the role. She was the one I confided in with life's problems.

George, she loved you. Thank you for always being there for her.

Mike and Mark, you were her heroes.
Taylor and Christopher. You had a great grandmother

I know Darleen is with God. I will miss her so much but I guess He needs her more. She will always be a part of my heart.

Her loving sister, Frances

Dear Mike and Mark,
I am so saddened by the loss of your mum. Your mum had a profound impact on my childhood, sadly I am not sure she knew that. I will always hold close her kindness, and nurturing, she stepped in when I was going through some tough times. She also put up with so much from all the neighborhood kids, as your house was home base for all the shenanigans we managed to get into!!

I will always look back with fond memories of those times and your mum. Please know you are in my prayers as you navigate through the emotions that loss brings forward.

Much love
Monique Cassidy

Mike and Mark, we are so sorry for your loss. I have such fond memories of your mom and she never failed to make me laugh. Her sharp wit and sense of humor will definitely live on with you both. She was much loved.
