Navigating End of Life Arrangements and the Importance of Direct Cremation

Navigating end of life arrangements following the death of a loved one can be an emotionally taxing task as there are a great deal of things that need to be taken care when you are grieving. One of the end-of-life arrangements that can make it easier for the loved ones of the deceased is through direct cremation. Direct Cremation is a service where the deceased is transferred to the crematorium’s sheltering facility, cremated, and then the cremains are returned to the family. In today’s blog we will be looking at how direct cremation can assist in navigating the end-of-life arrangements for your loved one.

Direct Cremation greatly simplifies end-of-life arrangements by eliminating complicated factors such as planning a funeral or burial. The advantage of stripping away any memorial service or viewing from the cremation service itself is that the family can be left to grieve in their own time without any requirements for an actual ceremony putting pressure on them. Furthermore, if you plan for a direct cremation ahead of time using funeral preplanning services a great deal of decisions can be made with the family knowing  that everything is already taken care of.

A direct cremation also requires the correct documents to register the death, authorize the cremation and transfer from hospital and finally sign the service agreement with the funeral director. In British Columbia there needs to be a Medical Certificate of Death provided by a licensed medical professional within 48 hours of death in order to have a cremation performed. Usually as part of a cremation package the funeral home will provide the services of a funeral director to assist you in completing the necessary. Interviews with Only Cremations are conducted over Zoom or by  phone, this allows us to keep costs down, though in-person arrangements are possible for an additional fee.

We hope that we have provided you with an understanding of how choosing a direct cremation can help you navigate the end-of-life arrangements for a loved one more efficiently.
